| Job well done for Communities Creating

The Kooskia-based Communities Creating Connections (CCC) is to be
congratulated for a job well done.
This organization's board, along with community members, saw a need
four years ago for a technology learning center in the Kooskia and Elk
City communities.
Four years of planning, grant writing, discussions and hard work have
paid off. The centers, with a total of 16 computers for public use between
them, are set to open at the end of this month.
For a very low fee, area residents will be able to learn to use
computers at their own pace, set up a free e-mail account, print out
research, search the Internet and more. The possibilities are endless.
Low-income families who could not otherwise afford a computer or Internet
access will be able to have the same opportunities for job searches,
resume construction or report investigation that others already have.
Vacationers -- who should be charged a more substantial fee -- will be
able to stop by the center and e-mail family and friends while checking on
the home-front via the computer.
The CCC has in its fold one full-time and seven part-time workers. Many
hours are volunteered by people from within the community who don't want
to change the town but to want to make it a better place and allow all of
its residents an opportunity to better themselves and walk into the 21st
century with all of the technology skills they require.
There's just one catch: funding is only available for one year.
The CCC -- with the help of the communities of Kooskia, Elk City and
all surrounding areas -- will have to work aggressively and quickly to
find additional funding sources.
From looking at the group's history, they'll find a way to do it.
